About

Why “Still Life With Soup Can”? Why not? Just kidding. I’ve had three blogs called Still Life With Soup Can since 2005. The first one was on Blogspot– it’s actually still there but it’s currently locked. The second incarnation was eaten by Swedish spammers and currently resides on my hard drive. I created a lifestream on Ticktock6.com last summer, which is cool because it pulls RSS feeds of the various “places” I am, but I found I missed the additional functionality of a personal blog. This is my attempt to start one up again, but I don’t guarantee I will be posting frequently because I have a lot of other stuff going on.

Some of that stuff: I write about basketball at the independent NBA blog HornetsHype.com. I’m other places too– you can visit my lifestream page or check out the mini-stream in the sidebar to see some of my social media profiles. I have a “real job” but do not expect me to talk about it here. I have two cats named Jolee Bindo and Starbuck. I am in love with my Macbook and waste inordinate amounts of time fiddling with and modding it– I’m addicted to desktop customization.  I am also a PC gamer and a feminist– you’ll probably see posts from me about all of these things.

I’ve known I was going to be a writer since I was seven years old. I started blogging again partly because I wanted a bigger space to talk about that, and I decided Twitter (140 characters) was the wrong medium, especially because most of my followers follow me for NBA tweets. I majored in creative writing and philosophy, then went to law school for a year, and could feel it slowly and excruciatingly grinding to death any creativity I had. I left, and am now in an entirely different profession and much happier than I think I would be if I was an attorney right now.  So here’s me as a writer: I’ve completed two NaNoWriMo projects successfully (‘05 and ‘09) and got to 40,000 words on another (it was in 2008, and actually I ignored the rules and went ahead and worked on the same project for NaNo in 2009). I have four unfinished novels under my belt now, but this November something really clicked. I am closer to finishing this novel than I’ve ever been before, and it has me really excited. It’s a science fiction basketball novel. (I know. Seriously.) I may be posting excerpts of this project and past projects, and doing a little self-criticism.

So, these are the ABCs of me, baby. Welcome to the blog.
